I actually like what they did back in the day, just making up an anime version of the story and ending when they ran out of manga. In a way it's more interesting than fully faithful adaptations, because even if you read the manga first, you still have no idea where they're going.
And even when it was arguably not great, it was still interesting, and I'm a weirdo that doesn't care much about what is conventionally considered good writing. To me just having a good aesthetic is enough to save shows with flawed writing. Hell, I don't even need a plot, just give me characters I like and maybe some nice aesthetic elements and to me that's enough.
I have flexible tastes in general. I don't care about genres either, so everything can coexist in my brain. Cute girls and sports and cars going vroom and big guys punching each other and giant robots and depressing shows about characters that are just like me and more philosophical stuff exploring specific ideas, it's all in there. Makes recommending things to people kinda hard, actually, because they don't have that flexibility. Having the best taste in everything is suffering.
