inb4 trans black people becoming a thing :blobdizzy:
was the avoidance of genetics there intentional?

that sounds divided to me? altho I suppose it's theoretically possible to share the majority of your culture yet have significant racial segregation. but that seems unlikely to be an equilibrium point
> the argument that race doesn’t exist in latin america
I don't think anyone here made that argument? tbh that would be pretty obviously absurd given that even if you lump all historical immigrants together (which is already absurd) you've still got natives to account for
regardless of personal feelings about the term latino isn't an unusual term in the US and it does seem to carry a generally understood meaning. bit like calling someone "european" or even "white" and someone gets all offended but it isn't wrong per se
the point about japanese brazilians not being latino is well taken but then again you could also argue that a second or third generation immigrant living in an enclave in chinatown isn't "american" or possibly even "western" to the extent that they haven't assimilated so I'm not sure that observation really changes anything wrt the term latino as used in the US
anyway thanks for taking the time to answer, I think I see where you're coming from regarding the original question
