OpenDoc was cancelled bc of technical problems and ISV pressure, while HyperCard was killed purely because it was a technological dead end that would have needed a total rewrite to remain functional let alone gain niceties like out of the box color support and as with all Apple proposed rewrites for user programs in the 90s, the leading proposal was "shove all the functionality into QuickTime and rebase off of that", which Jobs wasn't going to have for obvious reasons (QuickTime was, is, and always will be probably the most needlessly byzantine and cursed artifact Apple has ever produced)
