We are (occasionally, in different places) moving _away_ from cars, because

a) a sustainable society cannot be built around cars and that's just getting more and more undeniable

b) rich people are confident they will be able to keep _their_ cars, by pricing out everyone else and leaving the now oversized infrastructure available for their exclusive use

I dunno. We'll see how it goes in the end.
