Well, I host my instance it it costs about $10/month to do so. So if you could just buy as many domains as possible and just start spinning up VPSs, you could start using up available resources.

I mean it only works if you can throw billions around like FB can. Idk if they are big enough to do that or if that's the move, but thats a way to indefinitely corner the market. It's hard to develop data centers too, so it's not like they can fix the problem quickly. It takes multiple years to get a new data center approved and built.
