Yeah, the upvotes from stars/favourites is how PeerTube does it too (so there's no downvoting option if you're using Mastodon).

The group will appear blank if no one on your server has followed it before or shared any of its posts. Once one person on your server follows the group, posts to the group from that moment onwards will start being visible to everyone on your server.
