@codinghorror @thomasfuchs Not to show off, but more to demonstrate cost etc. I have roughly 9 exabytes in my care. The daily media replacements are sometimes eye watering. At last count I think it was roughly 100000 drives of mixed media. They have an ungodly amount of RAM cache in front of them, and the tape drives store the lions share (obviously) The network requirements, and all the other infrastructure is also utterly bananas. And this isn’t even a ‘big’ storage array by large enterprise standards. But good lord is it expensive to run.
