@thomasfuchs I don't see large generic instances being the route to wider uptake.
I think it will be new instances set up by existing orgs with existing user bases who want to sidestep the social media giants. That will need one or two to take the plunge, but if they make it work then others will follow.
So not lots of individual users joining and choosing an instance but influxes of large user bases on to ready made new instances.
