In the carny-influenced dialect of wrestling, a "gimmick" can be the character you're presenting as, a business plan, an angle you're working, a tool or device you're using, or just a stand-in for "thingy". As such, it's delightfully flexible and it just has a really playful sound to it. "Hey, love, hand me that gimmick over there." It's just fun to say. Gimmick.
