    @jens @vertigo @b0rk @palin Certainly a 'byte' isn't necessarily 8 bits (qv https://retrocomputing.stackexchange.com/questions/15512/did-any-computer-use-a-7-bit-byte) but I can't see "octet" being anything except 8, IIRC that's the whole reason the word was coined.
