The long term goal should be drastically reduced reliance on exchanges. I disagree that privacy by default is required, though it would be desirable if it could be done without tradeoffs (which has not been achieved yet on any coin).

Making payjoin (2 person coinjoin) ubiquitous (which is entirely feasible) would significantly frustrate chainalysis and has no fingerprint. Furthermore, a significant minority of users using coinjoin would eventually taint the majority of the utxo set.
