those advocating the latter will use the former as a shield "see, socialism doesn't have to authoritarian" and the former often let them because if the ridiculous notion that "we have the same goals".
the conflation is helped by a general disdain for economics, the promise of plenty, and democratic ideology "the government is all of us".
