The driving wheel and pedals and whatnot are an interface designed to allow you to operate the car's components even if you do not know how they exactly operate (GUI). Whereas an automatic gearbox is an interface designed to change the gears on your behalf even if you know how it's changing them (AI). Not the same thing.
