It addresses some weak points from those earlier builds in terms of durability and in terms of disassembly and reassembly. The modularity is very cool as well, there are lots of ways to mix and match this range and the documentation and included parts are really helpful for that aspect too.
The difference is entirely a difference in design, it's not about higher-quality materials. The most prominent difference is that it uses no nails at all and only 4 self-drilling-type wood screws (I'm not entirely clear what value those 4 screws and the part they attach adds).
I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that it uses a Philips screwdriver for some screws that could have used an Allen key! ?
