Viruses are observable through SEMs as another poster noted. I'll also remark that I believe very heavily in SEM due to my work experience. I have observed work done on industrial electron microscopes intended for materials analysis and I have no doubt that similar machines could observe viruses. Based on this experience I have no problem accepting this premise.
