The most effective thing you can do with a knife is thrust/stab, which a hawkbill profile makes less effective. And folders are folded, which is something that can go wrong if you're e.g. pulling it with your off hand while your strong side is halfway into a triangle choke.

I do like the finger ring, as it lets me use the hand for e.g. reloading a pistol without dropping the knife. I run one of these. 3" and nasty.
