@RogerBW @DarkestKale holy fucking shit. I just found out via Wikipedia that they beat and tortured their kid enough to get locked up in the 60s (when physical violence against children - at least seems from here - seems to have been more normalised).

I went off their work in my late teens/early twenties due to fantasy racism, preachiness and writing that no longer worked for me in more recent books, but I still thought somewhat fondly of their early works I'd have similarly had no idea until you mentioned it.
