@skinnylatte Paris can be like that to a degree. I have family in France and one of my cousins had a tiny apartment (former maid room, elevator stopped one floor below) and I think it was 100 sqft at most. But go downstairs and there were three boulangeries in the same block and multiple grocery stores (plus restaurants). For over a week our daily ritual was to get up early to get fresh croissants and/or a baguette from one of the boulangeries. Coupled with French butter... Yum. We bought other stuff, but the bread/butter was heavenly.

So if I have to leave NYC, Paris would do fine food-wise for me.
