@p Probably thinks it's stealthier that way since you aren't ending up in nginx (or Diddy web server if you're a chiggerkey user, or Apache if you're @dcc) logs. Pleroma's Gopher also has no ratelimits or guardrails, I was practically DoSed a while ago with constant 500s until I turned it off.
