To me, (permanent) blocking is a non-feature that we should try to get rid of, if we can. Of course I acknowledge that everyone should be empowered to protect themselves, so we should be careful.

However, I wonder if there are any statistics on how often a block is the result of a tragic misunderstanding.

Also, I wonder why there isn't some kind of appeal, possibly after a period of time.
