So often when I was really into an episode, I would wonder whether the real job is like this, and what that kind of diplomatic competency must be like to be a part of - and the vast majority of it quiet, behind closed doors, just deftly navigating power structures and personalities, forging bonds and putting out fires that the general population never even know about.
