they have domestic systems with similar capabilities to the S400 (bavar-373) but it's unknown how many of those they have. for all we know they have hundreds of them hidden away in underground facilities

I know iran doesn't want to be dependent on russia (or anyone else, presumably) because russia has withheld air defense systems in the past to put political pressure on iran re: nuclear development
