I'll go against the crowd for this one and argue that homework can be a good way to consolidate learning that has happened in class, because our brain likes repetition and learns best when doing stuff on its own. It can also allow the detection of unclear points that might have seemed fine during class but once in a different context were actually misunderstood or forgotten.
So I think it is good to have (limited) homework, provided that students have access to a space where they can do the homework besides their home.
