@thomasfuchs When I was a teacher, and I did the introductory session for the operating systems course, I'd sometimes troll my students a little about just this.

Show of hands! Who in here is a MacOS fan? (a few hands shoot up)
Who's a Windows guy? (a lot of hands shoot up)
Who's a Linuxhead? (one or two hands)
...and who thinks it's silly to base your personal identity on a piece of software? (sheepish laughter)

(I fell into that trap when I was young and really, *really* liked nerding around with the Amiga. The aftermath of Commodore's collapse made me think very hard about that.)
