I have 2 of those, so I know.
But even if you somehow liberate them, you'll still have the problems of them having a cellular modem, anthenna's for WiFi, Bluetooth, TV tuner, and NFC or FeliCa, a microphone, a camera, motion sensors, GPS, and all the other stuff that make all phones fundamentally problematic in the first place.
