So we will ignore their attempts to disable those features all around! <Devs> Aaaah how do I turn this off?! It's causing more problems than it solves! <Google> I can't think of any cases when disabling it makes sense, therefore they don't exist. I dare you to name one. I double dog dare you. <Devs> <years of frustrated comments listing real life use cases†> <W3C> ahem, we have semantics to the autocomplete attribute, you can explicitly tell the user-agent what kind of information is expected in this field, like full name, email, country, cvv2, etc.! And you can still say autocomplete=off to disable it! <Devs> Hey Google, see, autocomplete=off should disable this! You are not compliant! <Google> Uh huh, mhm, ehhh… We hear you, this has been changed, now autocompletion will be turned off if you set autocomplete= to a value Chrome doesn't recognize! But autocomplete=off will still be ignored. <Devs> What the everloving fuck. What happens when the standard changes? What happened to respecting standards?</a></label><br><a href="https://files.ohai.social/media_attachments/files/110/101/413/438/684/835/original/f53086e6b276de59.png" rel="external">https://files.ohai.social/media_attachments/files/110/101/413/438/684/835/original/f53086e6b276de59.png</a></li><li><label><a rel="external" href="https://gnusocial.jp/attachment/5079784">A screenshot of a Reddit post (2/2):<Google> Oh, and we have created an awesome system for guessing which field expects what kind of information, you'll love it! <Devs> What the everloving fuck. We have standards for that! <Google> Yeah, but some idiots among you can't use them right, soooo… just bend over and accept that we know better, lolz <Devs> Hey, your system is autofilling that my form's clearly-annotated "postal code" field with a customer's credit card expiry month! <Google> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'll try to make it work better in the future. But it's all the fault of those lazy webmasters who can't annotate their shit and we have to guess it >_>. Cut us some slack.† Including such cases as "a user is entering a captcha/one-time 2FA token", "a site operator is configuring Twitter API login credentials in the website's control panel", "a customer support agent is creating an order for a customer who just called in".</a></label><br><a href="https://files.ohai.social/media_attachments/files/110/101/425/878/148/915/original/3160d72906d148c8.png" rel="external">https://files.ohai.social/media_attachments/files/110/101/425/878/148/915/original/3160d72906d148c8.png</a></li></ol></footer></blockquote>
