The following is based on a true story, although it has been dramatized for entertainment. <Google> Too many webmasters are idiots and think disabling form autofill/autocomplete will increase security, when all it does is inconvenience the user. So we will ignore their attempts to disable those features all around! <Devs> Aaaah how do I turn this off?! It's causing more problems than it solves! <Google> I can't think of any cases when disabling it makes sense, therefore they don't exist. I dare you to name one. I double dog dare you. <Devs> <years of frustrated comments listing real life use cases†> <W3C> ahem, we have semantics to the autocomplete attribute, you can explicitly tell the user-agent what kind of information is expected in this field, like full name, email, country, cvv2, etc.! And you can still say autocomplete=off to disable it! <Devs> Hey Google, see, autocomplete=off should disable this! You are not compliant! <Google> Uh huh, mhm, ehhh… We hear you, this has been changed, now autocompletion will be turned off if you set autocomplete= to a value Chrome doesn't recognize! But autocomplete=off will still be ignored. <Devs> What the everloving fuck. What happens when the standard changes? What happened to respecting standards?
