In both languages you have compound words, but German compound words often connote something much stronger than the literal translation of their two parts e.g. Weltschmerz literally would translate to world pain but really means "a feeling of melancholy and world-weariness". Similarly, English now has words like failson: an incompetent, unsuccessful middle-class or upper-class man who is protected from economic duress by his family's wealth or influence.
