BenFun fact! So I'd never heard of em dashes before someone mentioned it here. Looked it up and apparently it turns out I've been doing that naturally for absolutely ages. I don't recall seeing it anywhere else (although suppose I must have done) and just feel it's a natural device to use as well as parentheses. Although I naturally do what I think is called an N dash rather than an em dash!
