I have found that the way to be persuasive on this is not to tell them that they're wrong, but rather to insist that they're right
"None of us voted for this"
"Au contraire, I voted for this. He campaigned on it, and it's what I want, and I hope it continues. If it isn't what you want, you should have voted for the Black lady. I hope he runs again so that I can vote for it again"
I find it's much more effective to let them judge me than it is to ask them to judge themselves
