   @chrisod @davetroy @Lxtruong Gmail gained prominence by actually offering 1 gigabyte of space when everyone else was offering 4 megabytes. I switched to Gmail then & Google later on kept sweetening the deal.

   I hated ads so I paid for extra storage & I think I currently use about 200 plus gigabytes total of space (across photos, Gdrive & Gmail). I only pay $10 per month for 2 terabytes of space.

     @davetroy @Lxtruong @darnell There may be thousands of email apps, but 70% of the users are using Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook. The average Internet user has never heard of Fastmail or ProtonMail.

     Masto needs its Gmail moment - something that fundamentally changes the conversation. As much as I hate the idea, gmail.social is the kind of thing that would drive mass adoption.
