@evan I think freely indexing posts on the fediverse is maybe not a good thing!

shoofle (shoofle@elekk.xyz)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2022 15:30:53 JST shoofle @nus this *was* me taking it up with the founder :P and it turns out that there are enough bad actors on the fediverse that it's scrambling for more safety features, which some people refuse to take seriously, which is why i'm talking about it when someone asks for opinions. if you meant bring it up with gargron, good luck getting him to listen to anyone's suggestions about making this a technology which can be used to build healthy spaces!!

nus (nus@mstdn.social)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2022 15:30:54 JST nus @shoofle you'll have to take up the ease of use with the founder. For example, a Protect Account button could at least help mitigate the auto scraping.
But otherwise the open API is designed for data to be easy to access, and federation for your data to get shared with as many servers as possible with as lenient of privacy policies as they feel like having.
This is federation, and this is Good™

shoofle (shoofle@elekk.xyz)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2022 15:30:55 JST shoofle @nus @evan the fact that privacy is easy to violate in theory doesn't mean we should like making it easier.

nus (nus@mstdn.social)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2022 15:30:56 JST nus @shoofle @evan as long as the API is open (it is), indexing will be trivial (it also is). There is no privacy on the open web, but at least it feels private :blobsmilehappyeyes:
