   You can't be sure of privacy of nonfree programs. In case of ios, cisco will have more control over the router than you, and there's no reason to them not to hoard your info for free cash.

   For privacy you really just need to avoid any proprietary software and identification.

     I have a question for the privacy bros/sis here: When people recommend router firmware like PfSense, is it just because it's open source or is there any more to it?

     For example: if I use Cisco IOS, is there any reason not to? It's (hopefully) not like there's metadata or sensitive information that will be sent to Cisco, right?
