   This is just sad - using a picture of Turing on the background as marketing. Can they not do that?

   Turing spent a lot of time inventing machines to protect his country from the Nazis. Today's tech... Mmm hmm, let's not go into details on that

   I feel I did a degree not in CS but in some "cons and grifts involving computers". I feel I internalised that "tech first and society later" attitude. There was one Prof who was like "meaning first, tech later". So grateful that I learned from him.

     It shows a version of compsci that doesn't exist - a fairy tale. The field itself became something that needs to be retouched and marketed.

     Like, in their version of "good CS", the deep learning gentlemen didn't fuck over one of their own, and other directions in the field. In this fairy tale version, they did it for science, not the money.

     In this fantasy version tech helps society, and Cambridge Analytica never happened

     I want to work in that version of openai, but it just doesn't exist.

     Their advertising video: a diverse team talks and discusses something out of a sci-fi movie - how AI helps society, etc, kind robots, and the picture of Turing on the background. Calm music, we're mesmerized https://openai.com/

     Reality: Altmann says we're all stochastic parrots (f society kind of), rips off artist's data, oversells a text generator as "intelligence that will revolutionise society and stuff", themselves they are unsure if they want diversity around them.
