I can't honestly understand how so many good people stayed to work there. Doesn't it of necessity require some sort of self-delusion? I suppose we all delude ourselves in our own ways, I'm certainly not immune.

whetstone (whetstone@romancelandia.club)'s status on Friday, 09-Dec-2022 15:12:56 JST whetstone @Madhur @chancerydaily I started listening to a podcast with Yoel, and he talked about how he made that decision. It was really interesting. Basically he gave advice to his team and followed it himself: write down your red lines, so you know not to cross them. Then stay for as long as the work feels meaningful and you’re not compromising your ideals.
Or, yes, visas and health insurance. I have no judgment for trapped people.

Some obvious: visas, too much unvested stocks, bad market, maybe you like the new management who knows
Also maybe you just bother about stuff at top. A job is simply to give you money to pursue your passion or give a good life to family
But also after a while you start feeling strong ownership. It's like I won't leave, you make me leave if you want to.
When you have spent years building and creating something... You can't just walk away easy.

If you find yourself approaching a potentially thorny situation, put up your guidelines in advance before you start getting used to anything.
