   I think my problem is I took software development really seriously and got okay at it and now I have contempt for most of the people in the industry because they're fucking clowns who can't program their way out of a paper bag without an active internet connection and stackoverflow holding their dicks for them

     @deprecated_ii There is a depressingly large number of people who call themselves "software developers" or "programmers" that fit your description. They are deserving of contempt from those who have put in the time and effort to hone the craft of computer programming.

     @deprecated_ii Taking things seriously is really the only way anyone can become good at anything.

     I think a part of it was IT and software programming is seen as a neat and clean profession for high status people. So it naturally attracts the worthless strivers and other faggots who don’t want to get their hands dirty.

     The first programmers were often electronics engineers pulling double duty writing the first programs so the fancy new computers they built with their bare hands would actually do something useful. They should have never developed computer language beyond assembly.

     @john_rando Anything that pays well and doesn't involve danger attracts mostly people who are just in it for the money, which rapidly destroys the quality of employees in the field
