@xianc78 @lanodan Meanwhile in Japan, we still use FAX in every business.

      @ryo @xianc78 @lanodan
But FAX is relatable and pretty useful when works properly. If it suits your needs then it's good. Although, there are always those who don't use <insert_anything> because they believe it's not modern enough.

@xianc78 Well not really, I have a monochrome laser printer, but it's old and the driver situation quite sucks, luckily I found some old notes of mine to set it up.

Also don't ever buy this fucking garbage that is inkjet, I don't understand why it's still sold, it's obsolete.
Laser printers don't have the issue of drying up so it's nice for people that print very rarely.
And for people that print often it's still great.

@nk @xianc78 @ryo I wouldn't have a FAX here because… why the hell would I let random people print stuff, might as well have an AirPrint™/IPP Everywhere printer available to all of the internet.

But I quite like the idea of simply sending documents over the phone line in a standard way, even if email is a much better one and barely has drawbacks by comparison. (You just get idiots sending/requiring bullshit formats like docx from time to time)

@lanodan @xianc78 @nk I always just send ODF documents or ODS spreadsheets instead of DOC(X) or XLS(X) respectively.
Since they can be opened in Microshaft Office without problems (or at least they can be opened, I ASSume it's without problems, I never used that crapware before), so none of my clients even notice the fact it's not in a Microshaft Office format.

@ryo @xianc78 @nk I'm the one that replies with text/plain most of the time, I'd rather avoid office suit(e)s.

@lanodan @xianc78 @nk It's rather impossible if they're sending you DOCX and XLSX files to fill in and return, and for whatever reason they refuse to take in PDF exports though.

@ryo @xianc78 @nk Then there is probably some bullshit reason like wanting to automate the processing, which I would refuse. (and could in some cases, sue because ??)

@lanodan @xianc78 @nk It's just the way Japanese business works like.
Lots of form filling in DOCX or XLSX files.
On average every white collar worker spends far more time in Microshaft Excel than in any other piece of software or soyware.
      Yes, even programmers.

@ryo @xianc78 @nk And I guess since it's Japan they also strongly tend to wear suits or other kind of dress code?

(Which is very rare for programmers to do here)

@lanodan @xianc78 @nk This one actually depends on the business.
For many programming related jobs, just business casual is sufficient.
The creativity sector often lets you wear any type of clothing you want.
Though when going to a customer in person, it's always considered proper manner to come in a suit.
