going back to English because my point was to put it on the record that you've done it to defend your instance and your users rather than as aggression, because so many of your actions have been maliciously misrepresented in this episode
I personally find it worrying that the system is structured such that if instances don't block back, they get defederated. that seems like incentives for building walls rather than community. I hope #FediBlock moderators won't fall prey to that, and will revise their rules to avoid being exploited and manipulated into promoting injustice and harming the network. blocking, silencing and muting were meant to promote tolerance, but this is evidently a case in which it's been abused to serve intolerance.-

Alexandre Oliva (lxo@gnusocial.net)'s status on Friday, 02-Dec-2022 08:55:56 JST Alexandre Oliva I'm familiar with the paradox of intolerance. I agree tolerating intolerance is self-destructive.
but don't allow yourself to be fooled into believing this conflict is about keeping intolerance at bay.
intolerance is the root and foundation of the conflict.
tolerance and inclusion help promote diversity and acceptance of differences. I'm not talking about differences on how to go about destroying others, or how others shouldn't be allowed to exist, mind you, but about differences about e.g. how to approach healthy, respectful community life.
the root of the conflict is intolerance to such differences of approach.
the target of the conflict is a nazifascist hunter journalist. her tolerance for nazifascists is zero. this apparently bothers some people, who have been campaigning against her, and finding other excuses to isolate her and the instance where she got like-minded people.
intolerance for leftists has been rampant for years in brazil. bolsonaro has incited people to dehumanize leftists, following nazifascist practice to the letter.
now, I don't like much when @Ursalzona makes fun of nazifascists she blocks. I find it gives them too much visibility. it's a bit like reporting about hate crimes and publishing the hater's face and name. the notoriety emboldens haters, and attracts hate to the publisher.
the antipathy for her seems caused by her intolerance for intolerance
supporting attacks on her resemble sitting at a table with nazis -

Intolerance of intolerance is not intolerance. Some assholes deserve to be hanged until they are dead. That's what we did for WW2 Nazis. Even when they're so old they're in wheelchairs. They don't need to stand up before they're executed. Or they can wheel around the prison till they die. Good riddance.
Are today's Nazis somehow better? They don't want gas chambers any more? They don't want to kill us any more?

I don't have all the facts, but so far what I've gathered is that some .br instances mandate CW use for politics, whereas the largest .br instance, devoted to left-wing politics, doesn't. some users of the smaller instances tried to impose their CW standards and were pushed back. the operator of this larger instance publicly mocked attempts to report political posts by herself and other users to herself, celebrated blocking of nazifascists, and publicly rejected the imposition of CW standards. an instance operator, a trans woman whose demands were turned down got into a fight with feminist women who lamented the lack of feminist .br instances and the little feminine presence. other instance operators started getting reports of the larger instance, insinuating racism, transphobia, involvement with kiwifarms and hostility by the operator. the trans aggressor used a seemingly masculine nick and had long blocked the attacked operator, so the latter used the wrong pronoun for the former, and that became evidence of transphobia. someone claimed her large instance was widely blocked, a user from another instance posted a page that showed the instance was only blocked by two tiny instances, and the fact that the page was generated by a tool allegedly written by kiwi farmers became evidence that the large instance had connections with it. tensions around CW policy made room for negative subjective judgments. instance blocks and counter-blocks ensued
