   two things at the same time:
   - probably having 2000 mastodon instances eagerly connect to a url in a toot is not ideal
   - ffs a web site should be able to serve thousand of copies of the same web page in less than a second, total. come on, ppl, this is embarrassing

     @elithebearded It's something that I am looking into to But it will take some time because currently I am really overloaded with work.

     But it's on my list of improvements to see what I can do to help mitigate this.

     @mastohost Any way you could reverse proxy and cache these requests to cut down on duplicated traffic?

     I posted a URL of mine in a reply to an @feditips post recently. I checked the logs:

     1140 requests in the first minute, peaking at 33/s
     1953 hits in first ten minutes, 2192 hits total.

     Fun:
     86% used ipv4
     1751 uniq addresses (ipv4 & ipv6): 183 seem to be masto.host (162.19.0.0/17)

     In UA, eg mine : "http.rb/5.1.0 (Mastodon/4.0.2; +https://fed.qaz.red/) Bot"

     79% id as "Mastodon/4"
     2026 uniq hostnames (some do HEAD and GET)
     6 punycode hostnames

     @wingo Mastodon adds a random delay up to a minute to avoid hitting the site in "less than a second".

     So this is more like 30 req/s.
