   Does "artisanal" have a connotation of amateurish, or of being elaborate and superfluous rather than practical and of high quality?

   I saw an article arguing "artisanal" was an unsuitable word for non-machine-generated software, because it would imply that you're not a software engineer.

     @clacke I disagree, I think they confuse “professional” with “industrial” which “artisanal” is in opposition. But both “artisanal” and “industrial” can be professional.

     @hypolite I noticed this morning that one of the restaurants in my area brag that they offer artisanal sandwiches for breakfast.

     That fits with my vibe of the word.
