Male violence is so commonplace that it's practically background noise to everyone at this point. Female violence is so uncommon that when it does happen it's a spectacle.
@brendamccann I am very disturbed by the idea that we should actively support some who kill their children, male or feamle. Those who do deserve a defence in court (as do we all) but not special treatment. If their defence involves mitigating circumstances then these should be dealt with as part of the defence and sentencing. If judges are applying the law unequally then the problem lies with the judges and should be addressed.
@brendamccann Agree. The thought of a woman killing her children is so heinous as to be almost unimaginable. The thought of a man killing his family is well within expected behaviour.
Kristopher Karolkiewicz died by suicide on July 24, 2026, after shooting and killing his wife Amanda "Mandy" Karolkiewicz (39) and their six children (ages 5–15) in their Grand Haven Township, Michigan home, then setting the house on fire. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office ruled his death a suicide and the other seven deaths homicides, so no charges could be filed. He was a former vice president of sales and marketing at the American Heart Association, whose employment ended in early July 2026, weeks before the killings. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2026/08/24/grand-haven-michigan-mandy-karolkiewicz-six-children-funeral-murder-suicide/91386589007/
On August 23, 2026, the 44-year-old Alan Michael Smith killed eight relatives — his grandmother, parents, younger sister, and four children — at a Sunday dinner at a home outside Billings, Montana. He then set the house on fire and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when confronted by police. https://montanafreepress.org/2026/08/26/billings-mass-shooting-fire
Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, of Winfield, Kansas, shot and killed his wife Kelly L. George (44) and their four children (ages 3–9) on the morning of August 11, 2026, then called 911 to confess and said he was going to kill himself. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before officers could take him into custody, so no arrest was made. All six bodies were found inside the home. He had a long criminal history, including a 1998 conviction for attempted indecent liberties with a child, and was a registered sex offender. https://www.kwch.com/2026/08/12/winfield-man-who-killed-his-family-had-lengthy-criminal-history.
On August 12, 2026, 41-year-old Nathan Brown of Hopkins, Minnesota, fatally stabbed his wife Kristen Brown and their 7-year-old daughter Evie Brown with a screwdriver at their in-home daycare (Brown Bear Childcare), then fatally shot himself in an upstairs closet. Police also believe he killed his 78-year-old mother, Alice Anne Brown, at her home in Burnsville earlier that day. Because he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene, there was no arrest or criminal prosecution. https://www.twincities.com/2026/08/13/hopkins-burnsville-daycare-homicides
On August 30, 2026, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota police found Jaymison Samuel Shaw, 22, dead in his family's townhome along with his mother, Jamie Lee Charles, 43, and his younger brother, Willie Samuel Shaw Jr., 19. Police identified Jaymison as the suspect in a double murder-suicide — he is believed to have killed his mother and brother by shooting before taking his own life. A rifle was found at the scene. He had no prior criminal history. https://www.twincities.com/2026/08/31/inver-grove-heights-mother-two-sons-found-dead
Benjamin Charles Parker was identified as the suspect in the quintuple homicide of his girlfriend Stella Jade Kimsey and four of her relatives/friends at a rural property near Forest Grove, Oregon on August 22, 2026. Before police could execute the arrest warrant for five counts of first-degree murder, Parker was found dead by apparent suicide (self-inflicted gunshot) inside his vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, about 187 miles from the crime scene. The Washington County Sheriff's Office confirmed: "No arrests have been made." https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16077439/Benjamin-Charles-Parker-quintuple-homicide-victims-Oregon.html
Jeffrey Manke murdered his family. The Winnebago County Medical Examiner ruled the deaths a double murder-suicide: on July 31, 2026, Manke (57) shot his two daughters, Jaelyn (16) and Lenora (11), in their Winneconne, Wisconsin home, then killed himself with a single gunshot to the head. His divorce from the girls' mother had been finalized earlier that day, and his blood alcohol level was 0.133. https://www.wbay.com/2026/09/18/autopsy-confirms-winneconne-deaths-were-murder-suicide
@KeepTakingTheSoma I do not support Lindsay or what she did. Very few people actually do. What people are saying is that if women's health issues especially after they give birth weren't ignored then the kids would still be alive. Lindsay was struggling, her parents said it and her husband's parents said it. Her husband went on a ski trip while she was suffering in the hospital. She called 911 asking for help more than 50 times in the 2 weeks preceding the murder. She expressed concern about voices telling her to harm her children and her psychiatrists responded by putting her on several different drugs that only exacerbated the problem.
No woman is supporting her simply because she is a woman. So many women have also been ignored while experiencing PPD or PPP and there is no recognized treatment because THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY DOES NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WOMEN. Motherhood takes a huge toll on physical and mental health and instead of getting support mothers who experience it are told to suck it up, you should be feeling fulfilled and happy, you don't want people to think you're a BAD MOTHER do you? Granted most women experiencing PPD don't actually harm their kids but this is an extreme and unusual case, nothing less extreme was going to get people to talk about this very real issue because it is ignored to such an extreme degree.
She should have gotten a NGRI verdict, which contrary to popular belief would not have allowed her to walk free (she can't even walk). She would have to spend most of if not the entire rest of her life in a state mental institution. And if she were a man she could have gotten that verdict in no time at all. The man who killed Iryna Zarutska did and there was no outcry over that!
@brendamccann If she did this because of the effects of drugs, then this is another line of defence. If the drugs had side effects that were not specified then the fault lies with the drug company. If the effects were know and she was prescribed them without due diligence, then the fault lies with the doctors. That she was left in such a position with children she was unable to care for is egregious. We see how quickly the state seeks to intervene if a parent refuses to affirm their child's new gender.
@KeepTakingTheSoma >That she was left in such a position with children she was unable to care for is egregious Yes, her husband knew better than to leave her alone but he didn't care. If my mother had struggled like Lindsay did my father would never have left her side. The doctors bear part of the blame too.
@KeepTakingTheSoma@brendamccann I can tell you something NONE of the men who had successful insanity defences to familicide EVER took three or four types of anti psychotics or were so FAILED by everyone around them.
