     “European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stood before French business leaders late last month and described trillions of euros in household savings held in bank accounts as “sitting idle.” Europe, she continued, needs to “put these savings to work for its companies.”

     She could have easily stated her investment speech without the other statements which is alarming.

     Did anyone proof read this‽

     Sorry, but there is context, the rest of the presentation apparently made very clear how that was meant and while there is a lot to criticize about von der Leyen and her politics, this phrasing isn't even remotely problematic, IMHO.

     @knud She should know better with her phrasing. I know she is not happy people are choosing to put their money in basic savings accounts instead of investing in EU companies, but that is due to market & political uncertainty.
