   How should Twitter respond to Mastodon?

   "The Innovator's Dilemma" claims incumbents are frequently displaced by innovations that are "not as good" at doing things valued by incumbents but are better at helping some important class of users satisfy unmet needs.

   Being "not as good" is very important since incumbents will often ignore such challengers long enough for them to become "good enough."

   Will Twitter ignore Mastodon? Should they?

     1. A group of former Twitter execs or competitors buys Twitter back for <$1B
     2. They implement a more modest site tailored for celebrities.
     3. They implement AP.

     @bobwyman @blaine @evan There’s not a chance that Twitter implements ActivityPub. As you say, incumbents rarely do the right thing - and I don’t think it’s compatible with the current leadership’s hubris.
     I love the application of the Innovator’s Dilemma here. It’s spot on. Even BlueSky is going to try and build the perfect snowflake - while a community grows and grows under all of their noses.
