   When I was switching to :blobcatpenguin: OS, I saw the act of sharing ones program online as altruistic. 10 years later it turns out that it was all just a ruse. The whole community is very far from even being able to be considered altruistic, more like performative and only when it benefits them.
   
   What a sad state of affairs.

     @icedquinn @scathach I don't even think Github is much of an issue in this regard. What I wrote about doesn't have to do anything with more corporate culture in the space. Neither with (GPL) licenses.
     
     It's more about the vocal people in the space wanting copyright law to enforce who can use their software and how; after decades of opposing the very such law. It no longer is as much "just use this, I don't really care what you do with it." and more "you can use this, provided that you won't do X, Y and Z." Reminds me of the Asian art scene on Xitter that slaps their "no reuploading authorized, no AI training use authorized" watermarks all over their art.
