@foolishowl I would say most big tech individual contributors probably make the same as a big nonprofit executive director.
The lower middle rung jobs have less of a discrepancy and can be pretty well paid. However I would also say that nonprofit or civil service jobs outside the coastal cities and big hubs, really don’t pay much. And that internationally there aren’t any / many nonprofit jobs that come anywhere close to what tech offers where they are.
@skinnylatte It always surprises me when people talk about taking a pay cut to work for a non-profit or in civil service, because the rare times I even see a job like that advertised it usually pays significantly more than a "private sector" job.
My best guess is the pay scale is flatter and I'm usually looking at the bottom tier.
