  @dalias as someone who used to work 911 as a first responder, making it so 911 is ran by LLMs has got to be the stupidest, sure sign that we're no longer being allowed to manage ourselves I've ever seen.

  @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @dalias I can't find the link (maybe it was a comment on Reddit) but I once read something written by a first responder. They remembered a call where a woman called 911 and faked ordering a pizza. They were explaining that a LLM wouldn't understand the need to speak in coded words, because the abuser, the husband, was present during the call.

    I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade. To really understand how absolutely terrible an idea it is to have AI answer 911 calls, I'll present you with a single real-life call: Upon answer, the caller calmly began ordering a pizza. Large, pepperoni. Side order of chicken wings. To be delivered promptly. The only sign the caller gave that things were amiss? She rather ignored the first few questions from the calltaker. Because she was being physically abused, had already been beaten, and her abuser was *IN THE ROOM* listening to her order pizza. Tell me how your AI is going to read between those lines.

  @dalias It’s not, unless maybe in a possible future, it is programmed specifically to identify such calls.
  Of note I’m not anti-AI/LLMs per-say, just against it being used by bastard capitalists intent on disenfranchising people for their personal profits.
  The associated topic, is how over reliance on automation could put us in a bad place when it falls down. 🤔

You *may* be able to detect stress with some degree of confidence. A carefully concealed call will not reveal stress. It will be making use of *something* the person who is a danger won't recognize, but which someone answering a 911 call will identify as a call for help. This requires *novelty*, *not* matching existing patterns that have already been portrayed in media or training data. Detecting this requires actual *reasoning*, not inane pattern recognition.
