   The Direct Messages feature requires a lot of careful consideration to prevent abuse.

   This is why you will only be able to message accounts that follow you if your account has less than X followers or is younger than 1 year old.

   Don’t worry if you have less than X followers, but have more than XX cumulative likes across your videos, you will bypass this restriction.

   Incoming and outgoing messages will be scanned for known spam urls before processing.

     And we have a clear warning that direct messages are not encrypted. If you need encryption, use Signal or another secure messaging platform!

     @grosser_mensch Of course, admins will be able to set these via the admin dashboard, and we will show users a warning about this!

     If you've run a Loops server, you know how easy I make it for admins to customize and change settings!

     We even have our own markdown blog/custom page support feature, with the ability to add these custom pages to the sidebar and footer for users, guests, both or none!

     @dansup I appreciate you taking the time to implement these kind of policies to prevent abuse. But it also should be very transparent to both admins and users what regulations are in place and also how to enable/disable or change them. An admin should not have to search your mastodon profile to find information about this kind of thing
