     @sun Yeah but Nolan has always been given the latitude to do everything exactly how he wanted it, that's why people go see his shit. IDK what the budgets for the last several of his films were but I'm sure they didn't make inception on a shoestring
     If you take that away from someone like him, you kill the draw of the auteur. and are guaranteed to get something worse than if you had just given the man a blank check and no rules

     Hell, they could just all decline to work with they guy, blackball him, and take away the entire purpose of his life. They don't even need kompromat.

     @pwm I don't have anything against movies with trans people or race swapping, categorically. but if you do it in a mass market product it's going to be surface-only and pandering. a smaller production might not be.

     You can't escape the reality that you have to draw a line. You can bury it underneath cultural norms, or delegate the responsibility, but the line exists and right now it's off in fucking la la land, and we'd all be better off if it were just somewhere sane.

     @sun if these industries had less market cap we could maybe do that but VC's proven record of making all the money and the repeal of Glass-Steagal means you need Glass-Steagal or similar back to dry up the money that once wielded by a politically motivated cartel dictates the direction of these ultra-financed productions.
     
     There is probably no putting the genie back in the bottle, realistically speaking. Congress couldn't pass a law if Bibi himself showed up and personally fucked the asshole of every congressman to get it done.
