   I do not accept the term "eligibility" because voting is not a privilege or a right, it is a responsibility and absolutely nothing else.

   the location of those responsibilities determines ones area of responsibility.
   you get the concept.

   I suggest adhering to it if you are interested in improving public perceptions and behaviours around voting. because it is currently a disgrace.

     @falcennial @dgar They are good, but they're also a potential wedge. Better to structure the exact same incentive positively, as walking out of the polling place with $100 for showing up.

     The suggested amount is very intentional: enough to be meaningful or even life changing to folks for whom the outcome of the elections matters but small enough for it not to motivate the elite at all.

     @dgar I do find that to be a good and appropriate stop-gap rule for the period of democracy before all voters are informed, educated, empowered, and not in desperation.

     once that stage starts, the rule becomes unnecessary.

     I’m in Australia. Voting is compulsory. I would be issued a fine if I failed to vote.
