   So, #Pika backup seems to just *fail* after a while, eventually giving my external drive errors that it chokes on.

   Any recommendations for another backup system like that?

   I used #TimeMachine when I was on a #MacBook, and I would love something with that functionality.

     @OrionKidder 1 TB HDD for $140. If the data is important use HDD...and a second backup.

     @OrionKidder so this sounds like your storage hardware is dying and you might need to replace it ASAP, not actually a bug in Pika? Though it could be worth checking if it's error messages were unclear and could be improved. @Photor

     @Photor I'm looking more closely, and I think I overstated it. It had errors that the Disk utility could fix, and now it has Error 13 warnings. I overreacted. Ooops.

     @Photor After a few months, I get error messages, and the only solution I've found is to reformat the external drive. I'm not at home right now or else I'd tell you the error message.

     @OrionKidder oh. So, the whole external disk is broken? That‘s bad.

     Then I have to think about the concept - I do the backup on only 1 HDD.

     Till now I have not observed an external drive being killed.

     😨I use Pika for my weekly (incremental) backup since some weeks (coming from Vorta). What does „fail after a while“ mean? Weeks? Month? Years? Just that I can have my eyes open.

     BTW: Vorta was ok before for a longer time. Changed to Pika just for convenience; Vorta is more complex to setup.
